About the Authors Journey

Every writer, artist, and director has one story which he will call his ‘baby’, out of all my stories ‘Island Blues’ is the dearest to my heart as it merges history, culture, fantasy, and mysticism. exploring the journey of African royalty cast into slavery, finding their way into Jamaica, and then mingling with Europeans, pirates, and outcasts, not to mention all of the fantasy characters that have integrated within the story.

As I’ve grown up I’ve discovered so much about myself and having a cousin as a historian he was able to unearth the truth of one of my ancestors, a lady named Iba Venus who was one of the first women in my family bloodline, the Ibo lady sent from Nigeria to Jamaica.

I’ve used some of these stories as well as my own experience in life, feeling like somewhat of a slave to others, realizing that my escape from my own problems in life was all about me stepping into my own power, knowing my worth, understanding my innate power and evolving to become a greater version of myself.

‘Island Blues’ follows two brothers who have been separated but eventually find each other through trials and tribulations. Many of these things are things that I have explored and experienced during my career and life in the film and music industry.

As a black artist, you are loved and adored for your gifts but sometimes you are shunned and outcasted for how your talents make others feel. It’s easy to be used and discarded if you’re no longer useful. Many of our characters feel a sense of powerlessness; whether it’s a European in the imperial war, a slave, a pirate being outcasted by their country, or a woman being used and abused by the men around her.

Island Blues is also the name of my genre of music, a mixture of blues/r&b and a clash of Island music, folk music, and soul.
